Things to Do
No matter how long you stay
or how often you return there is always something new and exciting to
see and do.
Just beyond Ambleside are the
villages of Rydal and Grasmere, where Wordsworth lived.
A short trip around the head
of Lake Windermere brings you to Far Sawrey and the home of Beatrix
Potter at Hill Top. From there you can drive to Coniston Water and
Brantwood, the splendid residence of John Ruskin, which gives great
views over the lake to Coniston Old Man.
You can cruise or hire rowing
boats on Windermere, Ullswater, Coniston and Derwentwater, while sailing
craft of old are on display at the Steamboat Museum.
There is a water sports
centre nearby where you can hire sail boats, go kayaking or even go
water skiing (up to 10 mph) In Grizedale Forest you can
‘Go Ape’ with a high wire forest adventure or hire a mountain bike to
cycle the local mountains.
For the young (or not so
young) there are plenty of attractions:-
Aquarium of the Lakes,
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, Ducky’s Park Farm, Trotter’s World of Animals,
South Lakes Animal Park, The World of Beatrix Potter, Ravenglass and
Eskdale Railway and many more.
For those of you who like to
walk around stately homes, gardens or Museums there are so many to
choose from :- Holehird and Stagshaw Gardens, Muncaster Castle,
Brantwood, Carlisle Cathedral, Levens Hall & Topiary Gardens, Holker
Hall and the Lakeland Motor Museum and many more….
Or perhaps everyone’s
favourite pastime in the Lakes is to walk the local fells and take in
the beautiful scenery
